Happy National Pigs-in-a-blanket Day!!!

Well not really. Yesterday was national pigs-in-a-blanket day and I missed it. I really need a calendar for these things! 🙂 So, we are celebrating today.

Who doesn’t love delectable little sausages wrapped in a golden buttery pillow. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack… I could eat my weight in those things. I could, but that doesn’t mean I have. While there is no harm in a random indulge every once in a while, one can’t eat these every morning. I know, it was a hard fact for me to accept.

Now, I am always one to find a way to make the unhealthy, healthy. So to celebrate the day, I scoured the web to find a healthy alternative.

Here is a bit of what I’ve found. Pick one and get celebrating!

The Food Network has Hungry’s Girl’s “De-Pudged Pigs in a Blanket” recipe.

These are perfect if you are simply trying to cut down on the calories of the traditional recipe by using low-fat version of ingredients. But, these just simply wouldn’t cut it for someone who is trying to cut out as many processed foods as possible…

Summer, over at The Dirty Floor Diaries, gets it. She created a fantastic paleo recipe. Check it out here.

 So we’ve cut out the processed ingredients but what if you want gluten-free? Well. I’m glad you asked. Nicole over at Gluten Free on a Shoestring has the perfect recipe. Now this recipe looks like the most involved, but if you are making the commitment to go gluten-free, then you will work for the reward of these freshly made morsels.

And of course you know the inevitable results containing unusual recipes. Maybe you want to mix it up? I came across this pretty interesting Buzzfeed article, “19 Audacious Ways To Make Pigs In A Blanket.”
